Dong Thap province's planning for the period of 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050 is the premise and foundation for planning and orienting socio-economic development for the province in the next 30 years. This is such a significant activity for Dong Thap province to complete the views, goals, tasks and solutions for comprehensive and harmonious development on 03 pillars: economy - society - environment.

According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee (PPC) – Mr. Tran Tri Quang, Dong Thap shall develop sustainably by 2050 following the “favorable nature" condition; develop agriculture - industry - services to ensure natural advantages in a harmonically, and at the same time make a difference with other localities; maximize the potential, specific advantages and resources of the locality in each region; actively cooperate, integrate and promote the role of Dong Thap province in linkage relationships and etc.

According to the master plan, Dong Thap has 04 dynamic economic spaces: the border economic zone at the upstream area of Tien River, the logistics economic cluster of Hau River, the central agricultural-ecological economic zone of Dong Thap Muoi, and the corridor urban chain and economic along Tien River; along with economic corridors, strategy, key industries such as processing industry, energy industry, business services, border gate economy, tourism and etc.

Regarding the development scenario, the consulting unit (EAI 43 Company, France) proposes 03 scenarios, in which the feasible scenario: Dong Thap continues to develop at the same pace as in the 2011-2020 period and economy growth in the period of 2021 - 2030 will continue to grow from 6-7%/year.

In particular, in order to shape up after 2030, Dong Thap identifies human and nature factors as the most important factor, considering the people's happiness and quality of life as the core and goal of development. Also, considering cultural values and Dong Thap’s people were an important endogenous force to ensure sustainable development - emphasized Mr. Tran Tri Quang.

At the seminar, the consulting unit reported and analyzed key issues such as: strategic orientation, development plan and key indicators on the development of key economic sectors; plan for organization of economic activities, technical infrastructure system, and social infrastructure, construction planning of inter-district areas, land allocation and environmental protection. At the same time, provincial departments, units and localities gave comments on related issues under their management.

In addition to requesting the consulting unit to record, study and absorb the suggestions at this Workshop, Mr. Pham Thien Nghia - Chairman of the PPC directed the Department of Planning and Investment to preside over and advise on organizing of workshops in each group of issues and fields to consult and critique opinions of experts, businesses and people, creating a high consensus for the provincial master plan.

After the Mid-term Conference, it is expected that Dong Thap will approve the final report in mid-May 2022. A goal has been set that Dong Thap will become a fairly developed province in the group of 5 leading provinces of Mekong Delta with development indicators above the national average.
