Dong Thap: Nearly 500 ensembles of the 10th International Yoga Day

The 10th International Day of Yoga 2024, with the theme "Yoga for yourself and society" took place on the morning of June 29, at the Temple of Literature Park (Ward 1, Cao Lanh city).

Attending the International Yoga Day, there were Mr. Tushar Garg - Deputy Consul General, Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Le Thi Kim Loan - Head of the Propaganda and Education Department of Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Le Xuan Hai - Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, Mr. Nguyen Huu Xuan - Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Le Quang Bieu - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Nearly 500 people participated in the Yoga performance, including members from the International Yoga Federation, Yoga Clubs, Yoga practitioners in Cao Lanh city, officials officers of a number of departments, lecturers, students of universities, colleges, and companies in Dong Thap province.

Delegates perform the traditional Indian lantern lighting ceremony

The program begins with a traditional Indian lantern lighting ceremony. The theme "Yoga for yourself and society" means: If each individual can improve themselves and become a better citizen, society will have progress, exchange and harmony.

Mr. Le Xuan Hai - Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations shared that Dong Thap province organized the first International Yoga Day in 2022, thereby contributing to encouraging people to increase sports practice, raise awareness of health care and bring new values in terms of quality of life. The 10th International Day of Yoga 2024 event in Dong Thap is one of the practical activities, contributing to strengthening and cultivating the friendship and cooperation between Dong Thap province and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and between the people of Vietnam and India in general.

Mr. Tushar Garg - Deputy Consul of India in Ho Chi Minh City said that Yoga originated from a very long time, that sport was not only the favor one in India but also welcomed all over the world, including Vietnam. International Yoga Day is held annually with the desire to raise awareness of the benefits of Yoga practice in the community. Yoga will connect people, balance life, maintain mental and physical health.

After the ceremony, nearly 500 participants performed popular yoga movements under the guidance of coaches from the Vietnam Yoga Federation.

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old traditional practice of ancient India that combines physical, mental, and spiritual activities to achieve harmony of body and mind. In recognition of the benefits and popularity of Yoga, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 every year as International Yoga Day and the official event began in 2015.
