Focus on implementing solutions to achieve a growth target of at least 8%
This was one of the main topics of the February 2025 People's Committee of Dong Thap province's regular meeting, which was held on the afternoon of March 11 and was presided over by Mr. Tran Tri Quang, the Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Mr. Huynh Thanh Son, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial People's Committee Party Committee.
The General Statistics Office’s leader reported on economic growth.
According to the Department of Finance's growth scenario, economic growth must reach 6.5% in the first quarter, 8.3% in the second, 8.5% in the third, and 9.5% in the fourth quarter to achieve an annual growth rate of 8.18% by 2025. The industry-construction sector must grow by 12.30%; the trade-service sector by 9.36%; and the agricultural, forestry, and fishing sector by 3.81% for the entire year.
Projected quarterly growth scenarios for 2025 were presented by the Department of Finance.
In addition to identifying growth drivers in each of the three sectors, the provincial departments’ leaders presented, examined, and suggested key tasks for the year. Specifically, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors are focusing on transitioning to high-value crop structures; promoting sustainable, high-quality, and organic production; improving livestock productivity and efficiency; leveraging aquatic products with high growth potential; and introducing intercropping to increase production value and offset lower-value products, among other initiatives.
In the construction and industrial sector, efforts should focus on increasing the processing industries' (food, rice, and seafood) capacity from 48% to 53%; launching 11 new industrial projects, which are expected to add nearly 4,500 billion VND (5%) to the production value. Additionally, it is essential to address the labor shortage issue, accelerate the development of infrastructure for industrial parks and clusters (e.g., Quang Khanh, Tan Kieu), and attract investments in high-value industries.
In the trade and service sector, units should prioritize boosting exports, e-commerce, and domestic consumption; developing trade and logistics infrastructure; and leveraging night-time services and tourism.
Mr. Tran Tri Quang—Acting Chairman gave a speech
In addition to directing provincial departments and branches to focus on solutions to achieve at least 8% growth, Mr. Tran Tri Quang, Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized the need to strictly implement thrift practices and waste prevention measures, effectively manage local budgets, promote decentralization and delegation of authority, and prioritize resolving obstacles to the progress of public investment projects in March.
Regarding minerals, Mr. Tran Tri Quang requested that the Department of Agriculture and Environment advise the Provincial People's Committee to submit a plan for assessing sand reserves to the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, along with a detailed report on the development of a land price list in accordance with the 2024 Land Law.
The Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested provincial departments to focus on completing the seven key items to be submitted to the Provincial People's Council at the upcoming extraordinary meeting, ensuring effective organization of the administrative apparatus, and maintaining uninterrupted professional operations.
Additionally, the Acting Chairman emphasized that projects must be completed as soon as possible in preparation for the Party Congress. He directed departments to prioritize key projects, projects with significant funding, and the development of industrial zones and clusters. He also urged the immediate implementation of clean land projects, which are free from land clearance issues, among other tasks.
