Upon receiving the news that Comrade General Khamtay Siphandone - former Chairman of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, former President, former Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic passed away on April 02, 2025, on behalf of the Party Committee, Government, and People of Dong Thap Province, and with personal feelings, I would like to express my infinite sorrow to the Consul General, all of officials and staffs of the Consulate General, and the people of Laos.
Comrade Khamtay Siphandone was an outstanding leader of the first generation, a key nucleus of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, an exemplary son of the people of the ethnic groups of Laos, a steadfast revolutionary soldier, who devoted his life to the struggle for national independence, freedom, happiness for the people, and the prosperous development of the Lao nation.
The passing of Comrade Khamtay Siphandone is a great loss to the Party, State, and people of Laos and to his family. Viet Nam has lost a great friend, a very close comrade, who stood side by side during the long resistance wars of the two nations. Comrade always supported the cause of building and protecting the country of the Vietnamese people and made significant contributions to building, consolidating, and developing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos.
Once again, the Party Committee, Government, and People of Dong Thap Province would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Consul General, all of officials and staffs of the Consulate General, and the people of Laos. We believe that the Consul General, the collective of officials, staff of the Consulate General, and the people of Laos will soon overcome this immense pain and loss, continuing the cause of building Laos into a more prosperous nation.

Viet Nam and Laos have a great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation across all fields for a long time. Based on the very good bonded relationship between the two countries, Dong Thap Province has established the friendly cooperative relations with its partner province, Salavan, Lao People's Democratic Republic in 2013. On September 27, 2017, Dong Thap Province and Champasak Province signed a memorandum of cooperation in several fields where the localities have advantages. Over the years, the cooperative relationship and exchanges between the two sides have always been maintained and developed. |
