Lai Vung is located in the southern part of Đồng Tháp province, in the provincial southern key economic zone (Sa Đéc). It covers an area of 238 Km2 and has a population of 165,000 people in 2007. Its administrative units: 11 communes and 01 town (Lai Vung town).
Lai Vung district has an very position, lying between Tiền and Hậu Rivers. It is located next to Sa Đéc Industrial Park, opposite Trà Nóc Industrial Park (Cần Thơ city) and contiguous to major urban centers of the region such as Cần Thơ city, Long Xuyên city (An Giang province), which is really convenient for attracting investment and development.
Waterway transportation network is very favorable. The district has a 100 km asphalt road system connecting with Provincial Road ĐT. 851, 852 and 853 which are also connected National Route No.54 and No.80; It is just 20 km away from Sa Đéc port and Cần Thơ port from Hậu River Industrial Park.
Hậu River contributes to the sedimentation of Lai Vung, fertile soil for the production of the famous Pink Tangerine which has a sweet and sour taste, unique aroma that only exists here with a stable productivity of 30,000 tons per year. There are traditional craft villages producing famous Nem Lai Vung (fermented pork), Bà Đài boat making village, handicraft villages and straw markets - source of raw materials for producing mushrooms with a yield of over 8,000 tons/year.
