On the afternoon of May 21, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province organized a conference to announce the adjusted Master Plan of Dong Thap province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

Attending the conference were former members of the Central Party Committee; leaders and former leaders of central ministries and sectors; former leaders of Dong Thap province; Comrade Ngo Chi Cuong - Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council of Dong Thap; Comrade Pham Thanh Ngai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee of Dong Thap; along with comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Party Executive Committee, leaders of departments, agencies, localities, businesses, and investors in the province.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai emphasized that today's conference is an important legal milestone, and also the starting point for the journey to turn strategic orientations into actual projects, livelihoods, and quality of life for the people of Dong Thap.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed confidence that, with the tradition of solidarity, dynamic spirit, and aspiration for development of its people, Dong Thap will enter a new development phase with strong internal resources, a confident posture, and achievements worthy of the expectations of the Central Government and the people.
At the conference, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Van Dung announced Decision No. 1410/QD-UBND dated May 13, 2026, of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee on approving the adjusted Master Plan of Dong Thap province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, the content of the Decision approving the adjusted plan includes key contents such as: scope and boundaries of the adjusted plan; development perspectives, vision, and goals; orientation for organizing socio-economic development space and orientation for developing sectors and fields; orientation for urban and rural development; orientation for developing functional areas; orientation for developing provincial and inter-communal technical and social infrastructure; solutions, resources for implementation, etc.

According to the plan, Dong Thap strives to become a province with rapid, modern, and sustainable industrial development by 2030; pioneering in building ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, civilized farmers, and belonging to the group of leading developed localities in the Mekong Delta. Building a comprehensive culture and people of Dong Thap; improving people's lives, advancing socio-culture, and ensuring national defense and security.
Some specific targets
The plan identifies 05 socio-economic regions including: the central socio-economic region along the Tien River; the socio-economic region south of the Tien River and north of the Hau River; the ecological agricultural economic region of Dong Thap Muoi; the marine economic region; the border socio-economic region.
At the same time, the province will form 05 key economic corridors including: the central economic corridor (along the expressway and National Highway 1); the eastern coastal economic corridor (along the coastal road and National Highway 50); the economic corridor along the Tien River (from the border to the sea mouth); the inland economic corridor connecting the Dong Thap Muoi region (along National Highway N1, N2, National Highway 30); the economic corridor along the Hau River.
In the period 2026 – 2030, Dong Thap will continue to develop, expand, and complete its urban system, striving to form 48 urban areas including: 6 central urban areas, 19 new urban areas, and 23 urbanized areas in communes. By 2030, the urbanization rate of the province is expected to reach approximately 50%. By 2030, the urbanization rate will reach approximately 50%.
Regarding the provincial administrative center, after 2030, the possibility of shifting to a new area and location (oriented towards the former Cai Be district area) will be studied when all conditions regarding infrastructure, resources, and implementation efficiency are met.
The conference also heard representatives of businesses in Dong Thap province share and contribute opinions on the provincial planning. Appreciating the provincial planning, businesses expressed high expectations for the bright future of Dong Thap province, as well as opening up many opportunities for businesses to continue expanding production and business, and for the province to attract more investors.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Thanh Ngai requested all levels, sectors, and localities to urgently develop a Plan to implement the Provincial Planning; review, adjust, and establish new sectoral, field, urban, and rural planning at the provincial level; organize the establishment and approval of construction planning, urban planning, and land use planning at the commune level; develop a list of priority investment projects and a resource mobilization plan; widely disseminate information to businesses and people to create consensus, attract investment, and ensure inter-regional planning is consistent with each locality; and build a system for monitoring, evaluating, and periodically adjusting the planning.
To transform the strategic directions in the Adjusted Provincial Planning into a vibrant reality across every piece of land, every river, and in the lives of every Dong Thap citizen, requires persistent effort, synchronized coordination, and the spirit of daring to think, daring to act, and daring to take responsibility from the entire political system. The provincial leaders determined that this is a responsibility before history and before the people, and we will not let the people down - affirmed Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai.
