On the evening of June 5, at Hung Vuong Square (Dao Thanh ward), the People's Committee of Dong Thap Province held the opening ceremony of the 1st Dong Thap Fruit Festival 2026, themed "Dong Thap - The Land of Sweet Fruits."
Delegates attending the opening ceremony
Comrade Truong My Hoa, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee and former Vice President of Vietnam; Comrade Le Minh Hoan, former Member of the Party Central Committee and former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; and Comrade Ngo Chi Cuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Thap Province, were among those who attended the opening ceremony. Other attendees included leaders of the Party, State, central ministries, departments, and other provinces and cities; representatives of local departments, businesses, cooperatives, and a large number of locals and visitors.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap Province, Pham Thanh Ngai, stressed in his opening remarks that the 1st Dong Thap Fruit Festival 2026 is an occasion to celebrate the accomplishments of local farmers in addition to being a cultural, tourism, and trade event. It seeks to introduce Dong Thap's land and people to friends both domestically and abroad while highlighting the fruit industry's potential and strengths. By bringing together managers, scientists, companies, cooperatives, orchardists, and consumers, the festival promotes trade, draws in investment, grows tourism, and raises the value of regional agricultural products.
Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, Pham Thanh Ngai, delivered the opening speech at the festival
Dong Thap is a land embraced by the Tien River and a part of the Hau River, blessed with favorable natural conditions and a population known for their industriousness and creativity. Through generations of cultivation, the locality has established large-scale, concentrated fruit-growing zones, creating its own unique advantages and distinct identity. Currently, the province has more than 134,000 hectares of fruit trees, with an annual output exceeding 2.5 million tons, making it one of the leading localities in fruit cultivation areas nationwide. In recent years, Dong Thap province has shifted strongly from a mindset of "agricultural production" to an "agricultural economy," developing its commodity sectors along the value chain to improve product quality, efficiency, and competitiveness.
To date, the province has been granted 3,452 growing zone codes covering an area of over 100,000 hectares. Many key products such as mango, durian, jackfruit, pomelo, and longan have gradually asserted their market position, meeting international export standards. Along with developing standardized raw material areas, Dong Thap has actively boosted the application of science and technology as well as digital transformation in agriculture. The province is building databases, digitizing management processes, and implementing traceability, which contributes to enhancing the transparency, quality, and competitiveness of its agricultural products
The Organizing Committee presented flowers and commemorative plaques to the sponsors.
This festival is anticipated to act as a link between "five stakeholders": farmers, scientists, businesses, credit systems, and logistics, according to the Provincial People's Committee Chairman. This will provide new opportunities for collaboration, enabling Vietnamese agricultural products in general and Dong Thap fruits in particular to access more international markets.
Within the framework of the festival, numerous activities are being organized, including exhibition spaces showcasing the fruit industry value chain, trade promotion fairs, the "Farmer 4.0" seminar, workshops on building and developing brands for key agricultural products, art programs, musical fountain performances, experiential tourism, and live-stream sales.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee shared the long-term development attitude, pointing out that the festival should become a catalyst for ongoing innovation in agricultural development mentality rather than only a promotional event. The province aims to build an ecological, modern, efficient, and sustainable agriculture; replan growing zones; support the application of science and technology; and improve product productivity and quality. Simultaneously, the province will keep enhancing the investment climate, making it easier for companies and investors to engage in the development of deep processing, high value-added economic sectors, and agricultural infrastructure.
Outstanding cultural performances
Following the opening ceremony, residents and visitors enjoyed an art program consisting of two chapters: " Sweetness of Alluvial Soil, Richness of the Land" and "Sweet Fruits from Good Earth - Honoring the Name of Dong Thap," which reenacted the natural beauty, culture, people, and development journey of the Pink Lotus Land.
Water show performance
An innovative musical water fountain show, which combined light effects, contemporary music, and dancing water columns to create a beautiful presentation honoring the image of Dong Thap - the country of delicious fruits - was the high point of the opening night.
A large number of locals and tourists attended the festival on opening night.
From June 5 to 8, Hung Vuong square (Dao Thanh ward) will host the 1st Dong Thap Fruit Festival 2026, which will feature a wide range of events. As a cultural, tourism, and business hub for Dong Thap and the Mekong Delta region, it hopes to grow into an annual event of regional significance.
