In the morning of May 7th, the Provincial Party Secretary and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Ngo Chi Cuong, along with the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thanh Dieu, and leaders of relevant departments conducted a survey of the current status of several key projects in Dong Thap's eastern region.
Provincial Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong conducts a survey at Xuan Hoa Sluice Gate.
In the morning, the delegation conducted surveys at several key projects and areas, including: Xuan Hoa sluice gate (the main water intake gate for Go Cong freshwater area); Binh Phan pumping station (An Thanh Thuy commune); Tan Thuan Binh sluice gate area - the planned location for the construction of a siphon cluster crossing the Cho Gao canal; and several areas along Tham Thu water storage canal and locations on Ram Ve canal - where raw water is planned to
The Go Cong Freshwater Project area, bordering the East Sea and flanked by Cua Tieu river, Vam Co river, and Cho Gao canal, includes a total natural area of around 54,000 hectares and has an estimated population of 500,000 people. The irrigation system was gradually built over 50 years of investment from diverse sources, resulting in a comprehensive and closed network of structures that included major components such as regulating sluices, water distribution and circulation canal systems, sea dikes, and river dikes. This system effectively meets the requirements for water resource control by preventing drought and saltwater intrusion on approximately 44,000 hectares of agricultural land. Furthermore, the irrigation system is critical infrastructure for socioeconomic development, particularly for industrial zones and clusters such as Binh Dong, Gia Thuan, and Soai Rap oil and gas service industrial zone, as well as for future development of urban areas, services, and coastal tourism.
However, because the coastal area and the project area are cut off by Cho Gao canal, at the end of the dry season, particularly when saltwater intrusion increases beyond Xuan Hoa sluice gate, the entire region lacks supplementary freshwater sources, posing the risk of water shortages for production and daily life.
At the survey sites, the Provincial Party Secretary heard reports from relevant units about projected investment plans for a project to transmit freshwater through Cho Gao canal to Go Cong freshwater zone.

Ngo Chi Cuong, Provincial Party Secretary, underlined the importance of ensuring a consistent freshwater supply for the eastern region's development, particularly during the dry season. As a result, he requested that the Provincial People's Committee, as well as relevant departments and agencies, urgently finalize solutions for supplementing water sources in Go Cong freshwater zone and submit them to the Provincial Party Standing Committee and the Provincial Party Executive Committee for review. This will safeguard the stability of people's lives, particularly during the dry season, while also contributing to the region's long-term socioeconomic development.
Furthermore, the Provincial Party Secretary requested that the unit operating Xuan Hoa sluice gate conduct research and apply science and technology in order to effectively manage the sluice gate; pumping stations must proactively ensure the supply of water for domestic use and irrigation for the people, particularly during the dry season.
On this occasion, the Provincial Party Secretary and delegation examined the current situation of Long Chanh dump. Provincial Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong recommended that relevant ministries and agencies develop methods to alleviate the overcrowding situation while minimizing environmental damage.
